At its core, ACCESS (Action for Cancer Care, Early-detection, and Support Systems) is a social initiative which truly believes that cancer care must be understood as more than just a matter of medical treatment. Access to information, early detection, caregiving support and treatment play an equally important role in determining the outcomes, especially for those people who belong to underprivileged communities. For a lot of patients and their families, these barriers aren’t just financial. They come because of a lack of structured support throughout their care journey.
Therefore, ACCESS works to reduce these barriers by creating some practical resources that make cancer care easier to navigate. We have developed a database of organizations and professionals in order to provide support to cancer patients. This will help them identify some relevant services and better understand the resources available to them. Alongside this, we have designed caregiver-focused resources in order to support those people who play the most important role in managing the patient’s treatment, recovery and their day-to-day care.
In order to strengthen awareness and community engagement, we are also organising educational sessions led by medical professionals on things like early detection, treatment pathways, and rehabilitation. The initiative also supports some of the ongoing care programmes through fundraising efforts and also provides direct financial assistance to individuals who are unable to access treatment through other channels.
Through these interventions, ACCESS aims to improve access to cancer prevention and care while building stronger support systems that could help patients and caregivers navigate the healthcare journey more smoothly.
